  • BBC Scotland has ordered an entertainment show pilot fronted by Paul Black
  • The currently untitled show will see the comedian take on challenges set by his social media followers
  • Tern Television says: “We are thrilled to be working with Paul and helping to bring his idiosyncratic comedy stylings to new audiences”

Comedian Paul Black is piloting an entertainment format for BBC Scotland in which he will take on challenges set by his social media followers.

The currently untitled show is being made by Tern Television, for broadcast in 2024.

The blurb for the format explains: “Boasting a significant social media following, Paul Black has grown bored of his mighty and ever-growing influencing powers. The pilot will see the comedian handing the reins over to the public for this raucous comedy roadshow, which will see him take on an array of wild challenges set by his social media followers.”

Black has amassed over 8 million likes on TikTok, and also has followers on platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.

The programme was commissioned by Steve Allen and Louise Thornton for BBC Scotland. It is produced and directed by Rod Tamime and executive produced by David Marshall for Tern at Zinc Media.

Marshall says: “For years now, Paul has been moulding the masses and making them laugh, like, and share the love featured in his content. But now he will be handing his influencing powers over to his followers (AKA strangers on the internet) and getting them to set him ludicrous challenges – all in the interest of generating some hilarious content. We are thrilled to be working with Paul and helping to bring his idiosyncratic comedy stylings to new audiences.”

This won’t be Black’s first BBC Scotland show. Last New Year’s Eve he wrote and starred in First Footing, a comedy whodunnit special. As BCG reported last year, Black has also been working on a BBC Three sitcom pilot about a man dealing with grief.
