Generations of royals have adopted the codes of Highland dress – so why not Prince William?

If you’re so tempted, but don’t want to opt for the full assault of the Scottish wedding attire, adopting a low-key approach is an option; knitted sweater with a pair of shoes perhaps, or a neat white T-shirt. Over negotiate the politics of being an Englishman in a kilt at your peril, I’ll leave to you, Sassenachs, likewise whether to go full true Scotsman. I’m sure there are certain pockets of Gen Z that would find themselves very #triggered by it in 2023.

There’s also a way to wear traditional tartan in a modern way; Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf wore an outfit by Glasgow’s Slanj Kilts to the King’s Coronation, specialists in creating contemporary tartans. Yousaf’s was the Spirit of Glasgow design. Perhaps a Spirit of Balmoral, or Suggestions of St Andrews, will tempt the Anglophiled prince yet.
