Scotland manager Steve Clarke is confident that Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney will be fit for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Denmark later this month – and revealed he could return to action for the Gunners this weekend.

Tierney has been out of action since injuring his ankle against Crystal Palace on October 18 and is being assessed ahead of Arsenal facing Watford on Sunday.

“I think Kieran will be on the plane and if he’s on the plane he’ll be fit. That’s my opinion,” Clarke said.

“You have to respect the club – and the club are telling us he’s working his way back to fitness. They are hopeful he could be involved this weekend. We don’t play until a week on Friday so he’s got time on his side. I expect Kieran will be fit.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed Tierney has returned to training and hopes the Scotland star will be available to take on Watford this weekend almost three weeks out.

Arteta will wait and see if there is any reaction following Tierney’s return to training as he looks to keep an eye on his progress in the next 48 hours before making a decision over his fitness for club and country, saying:

“Kieran has been training the last two days, he is feeling much better so hopefully he will be available.”

“Let’s see in the next two training sessions how he’s feeling, he has done bits with the team but he’s not fully trained yet, so in the next two days we will see how he is and where his fitness is.”
