No. 26 women’s tennis sweeps Hope – Denison University

Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. (March 4, 2023) – Playing in its first of back-to-back matches in back-to-back days in Michigan, the No. 26 Denison University women’s tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep at Hope College on Saturday at the DeWitt Tennis Center.

Denison got things started with an 8-4 win by Peyton Oda and Elizabeth Hoo at No. 3 doubles.

That was followed by an 8-1 win by Monique Brual and Caroline Lopez at No. 2 doubles before Sydney Cianciola and Sarah Robertson earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.

Oda then earned the first singles win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 spot before Robertson clinched it with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

Lopez followed with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles while Sofia Zafiropulos won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

Brual then earned a 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-2) win in a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 3 singles before Cianciola finished things off with a 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.

In addition to improving to 3-2 overall on the season, Denison is now 5-0 against Hope (2-3) during Head Coach Jamie Scott‘s tenure leading the Big Red.

The Big Red will face a quick turnaround tomorrow as they battle Kalamazoo College at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 5.
