Yard waste collection to end
WEIRTON — The City of Weirton’s Sanitation Department will end the collection of yard waste for the year on Dec. 1.
Collections will resume in the spring. For more information, contact the Public Works Department at (304) 797-8500, extension 3002 or 3003.
Mingo Junction closed on holiday
MINGO JUNCTION — The Village of Mingo Junction’s municipal building will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving. Thursday’s garbage will be picked up on Friday, along with Friday’s regular route.
City garbage schedule will change
STEUBENVILLE — The city’s sanitation department will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
No garbage collection will occur on Thanksgiving Day. Garbage collection for residents with Thursday collection will occur on Saturday.
Patrol graduates 39 troopers
COLUMBUS — Carrollton’s Joshua M. Knipp was one of 39 members of the 172nd Class of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy.
Knipp, who has been assigned to the Steubenville Post, was recognized during Friday’s ceremony for having the top academic performance in his class.
State Rep. Representative Tracy M. Richardson, R-Marysville, delivered the commencement address. Fairfield County Common Pleas Judge David A. Trimmer administered the oath of office.
Courses completed include crash investigation, criminal and traffic law, detection of impaired drivers, firearms, physical fitness, self-defense and emergency vehicle operations.
Trooper Nicholas V. Hermann of Randolph, who has been assigned to the Bucyrus Post, was class speaker.
Graduates began reporting to their posts on Sunday. Their first 70 working days will be a field training period under the guidance of a veteran officer.
Edison board to meet
RICHMOND — The Edison Local Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Edison High School fieldhouse. This is a change from the regularly scheduled Dec. 21 meeting.
