Huge 24-hour ‘mega-gym’ moving into busy Scots retail park

A HUGE 24-hour gym is set to open in a busy Scots retail park.

The new workout zone is going to span three empty units in a popular Edinburgh retail park.

Some of the current shops which will be turned into the mega-gym include the Pound Stretcher and Barnardo’s charity shop at Meadowbank Shopping Park.

The Gym Group earmarked the spot to start renovations for their new two-storey sweat inducing venue.

The business already has a few gyms stationed around the outskirts of Edinburgh and one in the city centre.

This new venue will be their first gym between Holyrood and Lochend Parks.

The Gym Group offers a variety of workout classes, as well as personal trainers and free access for members to a fitness app.

According to Edinburgh Live, a planning statement on behalf of the applicant said: “The Gym provides a high quality but low cost option for health and fitness activity. The operation includes a range of cardio-vascular (rowing, running, cycling, etc) and resistance (weights) equipment.

“The nature of the operation limits the requirement for music to be played within the premises, with music limited as members prefer to use personal music players.

“Audio equipment is separated around the premises to avoid ‘hotspots’ of noise generation. Members cannot interfere with either the content or volume of the audio visual equipment which is controlled within staff only areas.”

The new 24-hour Meadowbank gym will be accessible through the lobby between 8am and 8pm.

Outside of those hours, visitors will need to put their personal entry code into a keypad which restricts access to one person at a time.

The organisation says their membership fees are low cost with no minimum contract period.
