BIRTHDAY GUY: Actor Brian Cox was born in Dundee, Scotland, on this date in 1946. This birthday guy was the first actor to portray the evil Dr. Hannibal Lechter in Michael Mann’s 1986 film “Manhunter.” He’s given acclaimed performances in films such as “Zodiac,” “Troy” and “Adaptation,” not to mention his Emmy-winning role as Hermann Goring in the 2000 miniseries “Nuremberg.”

ARIES (March 21-April 19): Keep a cool head. Events may conspire to make you fly off the handle and create an unpleasant scene. Think first before you act. You may not win this round but you’ll certainly live to fight another day.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): This is a poor day for serious debate. Try to keep a casual, pleasant demeanor and avoid conflicts. Self-improvement can be attained simply by becoming a little more self-sufficient and self-reliant.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Put your money where your mouth is. It’s time to settle all accounts, debts and scores. Do what is required of you, but realize this is a poor time for making key decisions or taking on extra responsibilities.

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Take the bull by the horns. The time for talk and planning is over. You should assert yourself and take command to make sure a project is done right. Do not fret over petty details; the big picture is most important.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): The truth shall set you free. You might think you can impress your peers by embellishing your skills somewhat, but the joke will be on you when a demonstration is called for. Stick with what you know.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Leave nothing to chance. Don’t mince words and be very clear of your intentions or else a frustrating misunderstanding is likely to develop. Don’t make a final decision until all the facts have been presented.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Grin and bear it. You may be in a bit of a slump right now, but greener pastures lie in the immediate future. Social obligations may interfere with production at work. Be an adult and take care of business first.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Keep your head out of the clouds. Humdrum routine may have you longing to break free to take flights of fancy and chase your whims. Your responsibilities, however, will not take care of themselves.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Friends make poor business partners. Pass up all offers that are “too good to pass up.” The only sure thing you can rely on is that there’s no such thing as a sure thing. No matter what the question is, the answer is no.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are correct. How far you progress today depends on how far you are willing to go. The only limits are the ones you set for yourself.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Weigh the options and choose your actions carefully. It may be time to turn an idea into reality. Use your intuitions to guide you through troubles.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): There’s no need to buy a new tire if you have a patch handy. Quit looking for an expensive solution when a quick fix will do the job just as well. Double-check your work to prevent minor errors.

IF JUNE 1 IS YOUR BIRTHDAY: Today’s new moon and partial solar eclipse falls near your part of the zodiac. You might feel slightly out of sorts if you are very sensitive or you might be more emotional than usual. The decisions you make this week may not be entirely based on rational thinking, so hold off on major changes. Your business sense is out of kilter through mid-July, so don’t change jobs. You will do better if you wait until December to make crucial investment decisions or to put career ideas into motion. Plan your vacation for August or early September if you want to have carefree relaxation.
