Hills Elementary School in Mingo Junction took time to honor past and present military personnel with a Veterans Day program Nov. 9. Several dozen veterans took to the stage while fourth-graders read poetry and sang patriotic songs. Selections included “America” and “Soldier, I Sing This Song for You.” Students in preschool through fourth grade, along with teachers and family members, were on hand for the program. Music teacher Aimee Carroll recognized 45 veterans from the various military branches, presenting certificates to those in attendance. The ceremony included reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and a rendition of taps. Carroll thanked the guests of honor for their service to our country and reflected upon those who never made it back home.
